Released in 1956, the Day-Date was based on the Datejust but also featured a window which displayed the day of the week. It soon became the flagship of Rolex and gained the popularity that it deserved. Rolex manufacture a specific bracelet for the Day-Date known as the "President" because it was reportedly offered to US President, Dwight Eisenhower.
The Day-Date is one of the timepieces Rolex offer in 18k yellow , rose and white gold. It is also available in the prestigious platinum.
Many alterations were made to the Day-Date over the years such as the Quick Set feature was added so that the wearer could simply pull the crown out half way and with a few turns they could set the correct date. Sapphire crystal glass was included to the changes of the watch giving it a sleeker look but also making it scratch resistant.
Paul Newman, who is known for wearing a Rolex Daytona, sports a Rolex Datejust in the 1986 film The Colour of Money.
