Rolex released the Oyster Perpetual Milgauss back in 1956 with the original model number of 6451. It is an anti-magnetic watch designed for people who worked in industry containing machinery with electromagnetic fields which could severely alter the timing of the watch. Hence the name the "Milgauss" as Mille is Latin for 1000 and gauss is the unit of magnetic field. Simply meaning that the watch can withstand a magnetic flux of 1000 gauss.
The characteristics of the original Milgauss were similar to the Submariner being an oversized case and bezel with twinlock crown and oyster bracelet. It then went through a few changes before being discontinued in 1988.
In 2007 the Milgauss was re-released with three different versions; one with a white dial, one with a black dial and an anniversary model with a black dial and a green-tinted sapphire crystal glass. Making it the only Rolex with a tinted sapphire crystal. Another trademark feature of the watch is the unique orange lightning bolt second hand.
