At the Swiss Watch Fair in 1954 Rolex introduced a range of watches to the public designed for diving, being the first watch to be 100 metres water resistant. That same year, Jacques Cousteau made a documentary movie about the Mediterranean titled The Silent World. In every scene, Rolex ensured that Cousteau was wearing a Submariner.
The uni-directional rotating bezel allows divers to keep track of their immersion time along with the easy readable dial and the distinguishable Mercedes hands which are strongly associated with the Submariner.
The Rolex Submariner has since evolved and now contains the new extremely hard, anti-corrosive ceramic bezel known as Cerachrom and now boasts a water resistance of 300 metres. Engineered using the new shock-absorbing Paraflex system to improve the resistance to shocks by up to 50% and the reliability of the watch movement is also enhanced.
The Rolex Submariner has frequently made appearances in many Hollywood movies but is perhaps most famously recognised in 007 James Bond as worn by Sean Connery, Roger Moore and Daniel Craig.
The Submariner is widely considered a classic timepiece manufactured by the most recognised watch brand in the world. This range of watches are very useful for diving and will also sit elegantly on your wrist for any formal occasion.
