Pre-Owned Rolex Daytona Watches

City of Daytona Beach

The city of Daytona Beach is historically known as the world capital of speed due to hosting many races on its beach and Daytona International Speedway course, which hosts the most prestigious NASCAR race. The city is also the headquarters for NASCAR.

Origin of the Daytona

Back in 1963, Rolex launched a new generation of the chronograph watch, the Cosmograph, which was later named the Daytona due to being the official timepiece for the Daytona International Speedway in Florida.

The Rolex Daytona

This highly prestigious watch is known for its performance and reliability within both the racing and watch industry. The Daytona has become a legend and the most coveted chronograph timepiece by many watch aficionados. It is also the case that if a watch collector had to live with just one watch; the chances are that it would be the Rolex Daytona.

The original Daytona was produced in a very small quantity and can be distinguished by its four digit model reference. The watch had a stainless steel case and a modified Zenith manual wind chronograph. Starting out with "Cosmograph" inscribed on the dial and as the watch evolved; "Oyster", "Perpetual", "Cosmograph", "Daytona" and "Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified" were added.

In 1990 the popularity of the Daytona peaked and the supply of the watch ran out so Rolex created a new version to keep up with demand. This new version of the Daytona moved away from the manual winding chronographs and instead Rolex introduced its first automatic chronograph.

The watch has continued to evolve and the current model is characterised by the new in house Rolex movement and they now contain a six digit model reference.

Paul Newman

The Rolex Daytona surged in popularity and the frenzy began in 1972 when, American actor and professional race car driver, Paul Newman was given the a Daytona as a present from his wife. He wore his original style Daytona for every race and it is said that Paul wore this watch every day until he sadly died back in 2008. The 'Paul Newman' dial is identified by the signature block indices and crosshairs on the sub-dials.

50th Anniversary

50 years after the original Daytona was created, it still remains a classic and is considered the ultimate chronograph watch. The brand new 2013 model released to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Daytona, is the very first Daytona with a platinum case. It features an ice blue dial and the new Cerachrom bezel in what Rolex call "chestnut brown".
